General Operator – Wiring & Looming (Defence Manufacturing)
£18.46 – £19.46Hour PAYE
£24.78 – £26.12/Hour Umbrella Inside IR35

Our client, a long standing partner to the UK Ministry of Defence, is seeking a hands on General Operator with experience in wire looming, cable assembly, and fine detail manufacturing to join a high integrity defence production environment.
This role is bench based, detail focused, and ideal for operators who enjoy precise wiring, crimping, soldering, and microscope work.
Key Responsibilities:
- Building and securing wire looms and cable harnesses using crimping, binding, and routing techniques
- Carrying out fine wiring and fibre optic tasks through lope holes on the production line
- Completing assembly tasks to detailed work instructions, drawings, and quality standards
- Using hand tools, soldering irons, and magnification equipment for precision work
- Recording and self certifying completed tasks in line with defined procedures
- Working to strict ESD, quality, and health & safety standards
Your primary focus
- Wire Looming & Cable Harness Assembly
- Basic soldering and crimping
- Microscope / magnified assembly work
Exposure to other areas (as required)
- PEC / CCA Assembly
- Micro electronics
- Soldering Assembly
- Plastics assembly activities
What do you need?:
- Strong manual dexterity and attention to detail
- Experience in wiring, cable assembly, looming or electronic build
- Confident reading diagrams, layouts, and work instructions
- Comfortable working under a microscope for extended periods
- Able to work independently and follow defined processes
- Flexible to shift patterns
Desirable (not essential)
- IPC 610 awareness or training
- ESD training
- Experience with crimping tools and fine soldering
- Basic PC / Microsoft skills
