Mechanical / Metrology Engineer – Calibration & CMM
In IR35 £32 – £35/Per Hour Umbrella
37 hours; FT (Onsite)
As a trusted UK Ministry of Defence partner, MBDA is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join its Calibration & Metrology team in Bolton. This is a technically engaging role supporting manufacturing across assembly, integration and test, working closely with production, quality and engineering teams to ensure measurement accuracy and equipment performance at every stage of the build process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver hands on mechanical calibration support for COTS (Commercial Off The Shelf) and Special to Type Test Equipment (STTE)
- Calibrate torque tools in line with ISO 6789 2:2017
- Support CMM inspection activities, including operating and updating measurement programmes
- Provide day to day metrology and measurement support to manufacturing teams, fixtures and tooling
- Act as a technical point of contact for measurement related queries on the shop floor
- Contribute to continuous improvement in measurement methods, processes and repeatability
- Support temperature and pressure calibration activities where required
What do you need?:
Essential:
- “Mechanical Engineering/Manufacturing Apprenticeship (Advanced Level or L3 Standard)
&
- Mechanical Engineering/Manufacturing Level 4 academic qualification (HNC, diploma, etc.)
&
- Mechanical Engineering/Manufacturing Level 3 vocational qualification (NVQ) *Not required if a L3 apprenticeship standard has been achieved
Or
- Degree in a relevant subject”.
- Proven experience calibrating torque tools to ISO 6789 2:2017
- Strong working knowledge of GD&T
- Hands on experience in dimensional calibration
- Experience working with CMMs (operation and basic programme creation or modification)
Desirable:
- Temperature and pressure calibration experience
- Background in manufacturing, defence, aerospace or other regulated environments
- Experience providing technical support within a production setting
