We’re working with a leading UK defence manufacturer in Bolton to recruit experienced Mechanical Fitters to support ongoing build and test programmes. This is a hands on mechanical fitting role within a clean, structured manufacturing environment — ideal for fitters who take pride in precision and quality.
What you’ll be doing
- Carrying out mechanical assembly, build and test activities in line with engineering instructions
- Working from drawings, work instructions and manufacturing data packs
- Using a wide range of hand tools, fixtures, gauges and measuring equipment
- Certifying your own work in line with product certification and workmanship standards
- Completing build documentation accurately and on time
- Working as part of a close knit production team to hit build schedules
This role suits fitters who enjoy detailed, repeatable mechanical work, not reactive site maintenance.
What we’re looking for
You must hold
one of the following:
- Advanced / Level 3 Electrical, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Apprenticeship
OR
- Level 3 academic qualification (ONC / Diploma or equivalent) AND
- Level 3 vocational qualification (NVQ)
(NVQ not required if a Level 3 apprenticeship standard has been achieved)
- Comfortable working to process, quality and safety standards
Additional desirable experience
- Manual handling, lifting & slinging or overhead crane awareness
- Experience working in regulated environments (defence, aerospace, automotive, rail)
- Manufacturing / Assembly Tools
- Hand fitting tools (spanners, sockets, Allen keys and torque tools)
- Measuring & Inspection Tools
- Vernier calipers and micrometers
- Test & Build Support Equipment
- Mechanical build stations and test rigs
