Mechanical Design Draughtsperson
£43 – £45/Per Hour; Inside IR35 Umbrella

The UK’s trusted Ministry of Defence partner is offering an exciting opportunity to join Europe’s leading missile systems organisation as a Mechanical Design Draughtsperson. Working within a collaborative engineering function, you will support cross-functional project teams to develop high-quality design definitions that align with customer requirements and manufacturing standards, contributing to innovative and mission-critical defence solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Demonstrated expertise in creating and interpreting both 2D drawings and 3D design definitions, with a strong understanding of engineering standards and best practices.
- In this role, you will produce and develop accurate 2D and 3D design definitions in close collaboration with engineering, whilst reviewing and quality-assessing 3D models to ensure compliance across a range of defence products.
- Salary and level of appointment will be aligned to your skills, experience, and technical capability. Candidates are encouraged to present examples of their 2D draughting work at interview to showcase their expertise.
What do you need?:
- Ideally qualified to Degree, HND or HNC level in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent), supported by relevant industry experience.
- Strong knowledge of BS8888 technical documentation, ISO 1101, ISO 5459, and GD&T principles, with the ability to apply these standards effectively.
- Proven capability to translate design intent from 3D models into robust, high-quality 2D and 3D engineering definitions, with solid 3D CAD modelling experience (CREO preferred); exposure to 3D annotation advantageous.
- Experience in the development and definition of tooling solutions within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
- Demonstrated experience in reviewing and validating engineering drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with industry standards.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively within multi-disciplinary teams across mechanical design and engineering functions.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence, negotiate, and contribute to informed technical decision-making.
- Well-developed organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise workloads, manage competing demands, and report progress against project milestones.
- Relevant experience with 3D CAD/CAE tools, with a proactive approach to learning and adapting to company-specific systems (training provided).
